Update - May 6
It is extremely unfortunate to announce the cancellation of the Canada 55+ Games scheduled for this August in Kamloops, BC.

We look forward to working with all athletes to deal with the matter and hope to see everyone at the 2022 Canada 55+ Games!
Update - March 30
Many of you were expecting the decision made by the Canada Games Board to postpone the Kamloops 2020 Canada Games to 2021. It was a necessary decision as your health and safety is our first concern.
Now, we look to and begin our plan for 2021. It is my hope that each and everyone of you will plan on joining us for the Kamloops 2021 Canada Games. I hope your enthusiasm remains strong.
After a discussion with the OSGA Board this morning, some decisions were made:
First, if you plan on attending the Kamloops 2021 Canada Games and have paid your registration, that registration will be held in the OSGA Canada Games' account and a receipt sent electronically from the OSGA office as proof of payment for your records. If, however, you request a refund, that refund will be made in full, but your spot on Team Ontario will not be held. You will need to reapply on a first come, first served basis once the registration process opens again. This may be in a couple of months once details of the new Games date becomes available.
Second, 254 Team Ontario shirts have been ordered and the year 2021 will be stitched on them, as the provider had the foresight not to put 2020 on them until confirmation was received. Those who request a refund will receive a full refund including the shirt ordered. Those still planning on going in 2021 and not requesting a refund, your shirt order will remain.
Third, the administrative fee collected will be refunded to those requesting a refund.
Fourth, for those wanting their Canada Games registration fee kept to maintain your secured spot for 2021, your OSGA membership and waiver will now be for the OSGA year April 1, 2021 to March 31, 2022 to include the new Canada Games year plus any other OSGA sanctioned events within that time frame. However, participation in any OSGA events in the year April 1, 2020 to March 31, 2021 will require that you renew your membership with your district as you would normally.
A lot of work has gone into this already and it is my sincere hope that you will still want to participate in the 2021 Canada Games. As always, I am here for you if you have questions.
Please email me with your request to stay as registered and money held in the Canada Games' account OR request a refund.

Some have been emailing me with concerns over attempts to cancel air travel to Kamloops. Below is the latest response from MeritBiz. Parts of it may apply to all of you, even those who did not make arrangements with Merit. Further to the article's suggestions, I would add that if having difficulties, consider these options:
Write/contact your MP or your MPP,
Write/contact advocates such as those seen on CTV (Toronto) news at 6 PM where people's issues are broadcasted and often resolved.
Failing that, wait as long as possible as Merit suggests. Consider contacting Merit even if you did not make arrangements with them, suggesting that if they could help you resolve this flight challenge, then you would rebook your new travel arrangements with them.
If all else fails, consider using the travel credit as offered with the hope that air fare may be cheaper in the future as the airlines try to come out of this pandemic and its crippling effects on the economy.
Consider the next time Canada Games suggest using Merit, then use them as they would help you resolve these issues.
Think twice in the future about using the airline that gave you so much grief.
BELOW IS THE MERITBIZ RESPONSE SOME HAVE RECEIVED.

Flight changes and cancellations. If you booked directly with Air Canada (including aircanada.com, the Air Canada Mobile App, Air Canada for Business, and our Contact Centres) or Kayak, Google Flights, and Skyscanner, please follow the questions below for help with your booking.. If you booked with a travel agent or any other online travel agency (for example, Expedia or Priceline), kindly ...
The 24 month rule applies only if the airline has cancelled or changed a scheduled flight. However if you choose to cancel, they have extended the validity period to March 31st, 2021, rather than the usual 1 year from date of issue.
We are suggesting that you wait to cancel your flight. If this trend continues into the summer, the airlines may cancel your flight, or they may have to extend the validity period for unused credits (I cannot guarantee this will happen as this is a fluid situation changing from day to day).
I am truly sorry that we cannot do anything more at this time, and I understand what a difficult time this is for all of our valued clients. We are monitoring the airlines/policies/cancellations very closely, and if anything changes, we will reach out to let you know.
If you would like to connect with someone from the Canada 55+ seniors games committee, please let me know and I can put you in touch with my contact, or you can find their contact details on the Canada 55+ website.
Thank you for understanding.
BELOW IS AN UPDATE RECEIVED LAST NIGHT FROM DAVID HUETHER, men's hockey.
Last night ( Fri. Mar. 27/20 ) on the 11:00 pm News on CITY TV Channel 7 the Newscaster stated that " Air Canada
and other airlines will be allowing CREDITS for CANCELLED FLIGHTS for 2 years. " This means that they have extended their window of opportunity for CREDITS past March 2021 ( as they originally stated ) up to 2 years which would be GOOD for REBOOKINGS for the 2021 Kamloops Games in August.
This means that they now have the same CREDIT Policy as West Jet for REBOOKINGS.
This statement needs to be VERIFIED with Air Canada to ensure that this UPDATED Newscast Statement was, in fact,
TRUE and is NOT misinformation that was mistakenly aired on the TV Newscast.
Update - March 25, 2020
In a conference call with my fellow provincial and territorial directors, it was decided that the Kamloops Canada Games will be postponed to 2021. The new date will be announced once confirmed by the Host. This was done with the upmost concern for your health and safety as a result of the uncertainty surrounding COVID-19.
It is my understanding that if you booked your travel with Merit, then they will be looking after your cancellation. Give them a couple of days to reach out to you. If you do not hear from them in a couple of days, then please initiate contact. For those who made their travel plans on their own, please work out your own cancellation. Likewise, please cancel your accommodations.
Other details will be worked out after discussions with the OSGA Board. It is my hope that you would still want to go to the Games in 2021. As such, your spot will be reserved until you tell me otherwise.
